Miners focussed on making current assets more efficient: GE Mining exec

With softening iron ore and coal prices in Australia, miners are focussing more on making existing mines more productive rather than breaking ground on greenfield operations, says Geoff Knox who is Chief Executive Officer for GE Mining and GE Transportation in Australia.

“All those customers are saying the same: they’ve got a good solid cost base and they would certainly prefer higher prices but they are not worried about the current price cycle,” says Knox who spoke to MINING.com at MINExpo in Las Vegas last month.

“They are all talking about focused capital spend and focussed operating spend to get more efficiency about what they got on the ground.”

GE Mining provides three services to the mining industry: power generation, water treatment and automation solutions.
