The New South Wales Government has received strong expressions of interest from companies seeking to explore for uranium in the Australian state.
ABC News reports that the State Government has received 39 expressions of interest in uranium exploration opportunities from a total of 16 companies, and that an independent panel will soon assess the companies before issuing invitations for formal application.
According to Michael Angwin, CEO of the Australian Uranium Association, the expressions of interest are a sign that “Australia’s uranium companies…are very ambitious” and that “the removal of the ban on exploration in NSW demonstrates that if you give them some encouragement they’ll go out and do business.”
Parties lodging expressions of interest have included Broken Hill Prospecting Ltd., Carpentaria Exploration, Marmota Energy, Iluka Resources, as well as the NSW Aboriginal Land Council.
