The Mining Industry Human Resources (MiHR) Council introduced on Thursday the Canadian Mining Work Placement Program (CMWP) — a critical component of the Canadian Mining Skills Development Strategy (CMSDS).
CMWP provides wage subsidies up to C$15,000 to organizations hiring in support, operation, and production level positions. Qualifying jobs include, but are not limited to, minerals processing labourer/operator; underground and surface miner; and driller/helper.
The CMWP provides wage subsidies to hiring organizations who provide work placement opportunities to newly trained talent that practice newly acquired skills and competencies from recent and relevant occupational training, MiHR said, adding that there are opportunities for existing workers to upskill and explore advancement in new careers, and to practice newly acquired skills and competencies from recent and relevant occupational training.
Contractors who provide work placement opportunities to participants to practice newly acquired skills and competencies from recent and relevant occupational training may also be eligible.
