MDL Australia unveils world’s first direct Blast Hole-Burden Measurement System optimizes burden to enhance safety. The new handheld reflector less Laser System “LA Burden Finder” was launched and exhibited at the Australian Construction Equipment Expo 2009
The Burden Finder is a single-person operated; integrated unit that helps the surveyor design specific blasts. It also offers real time burden and face height calculations to measures inaccessible and/or dangerous areas in a safe manner.
This class 1 eye safe reflectorless laser instrument allows surveyors, rock face profilers and other users to input basic drilling parameters including drill angle, collar-crest distance and required minimum burden. The must have unit for surveyors and rock face profilers.
The Burden Finder comes with a built-in compass and a digital inclinometer with a range of +- 70 degrees from horizontal and has an accuracy level of 0.2 degrees. It has the capacity to shoot up to 150 meters reflector less range and 600 meters with a reflector and has the accuracy of 5 centimeters.
According to Kellie Robertson, the product specialist of MDL Australia, “sequential shots taken from the crest to toe in front of the blast hole allows the surveyors a complete table of burden depths to be saved and displayed.” Maximum and minimum burdens can be recalled and displayed.
“Shoot any point on the face in front of a blast hole and directly display the calculated burden and hole depth for that point. A percentage indication of over/under burden is also displayed.” Ms. Robertson said.
The Burden Finder includes a wireless with Bluetooth® data communication option and a large onboard data memory. The 3D profiling device requires no field recorder or computer to calculate Burden and depth profiles. All measured data can be transferred to PC computers and printers using the optional internal Bluetooth® data radio or serial port (RS232).
