Friedland company may be out of step with copper project sale

Ivanhoe Australia Ltd (ASX & TSX: IVA), controlled by North American-based Ivanhoe Mines, today put out what it quaintly described as a clarification of its position on Exco Resources Ltd (ASX: EXS) selling the Cloncurry copper project to Xstrata Copper. Ivanhoe, which is Exco's major shareholder made it clear it was not supporting the sale, pointing out that the company's chief executive Peter Reeve, as a director of Exco, excused himself from the deliberation of this transaction.

Indonesian investment agency to buy 7% of Newmont Indonesia

The Indonesian government said on Sunday that state investment agency Pusat Investasi Pemerintah (PIP) would buy a 7 percent stake in Newmont Mining Corp's Indonesian unit, paving the way for an initial public offering for the unit in coming months.

Peru Miner Milpo to Invest $400 Million in Copper Project: Bloomberg

Bloomberg reports: Cia. Minera Milpo SA, a Peruvian zinc and lead miner, won the bidding for a copper and molybdenum deposit stripped from Inca Pacific Resources Inc. (IPR) last year and will invest $400 million in the project, the government said. Lima-based Milpo will start up the Magistral deposit in the northern Andes in 2015, state investment promotion agency Proinversion said today in an e-mailed statement. Peru canceled Vancouver-based Inca Pacific’s concession in October, alleging the company failed to meet investment commitments.

Nautilus forms strategic partnership and secures vessel

Nautilus Minerals' (TSX:NUS)(AIM:NUS) plan to open a new frontier of seafloor resource production has taken a major step forward, with the formation of a strategic partnership with German shipping company Harren & Partner ("Harren"). A joint venture company (the "Vessel JV") is to be formed to own and operate a production support vessel which will serve as the operational base for Nautilus to produce high grade copper and gold ore at its first development project, Solwara 1, in the Bismarck Sea of Papua New Guinea ("PNG").

NovaGold releases PEA for Ambler project, Alaska

NovaGold Resources released a prefeasibility study today on its 100%-owned Ambler project in northwest Alaska. The Vancouver-based company is exploring the sprawling 36,670-hectare property, which is host to a number of high-grade copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver deposits. According to the PEA, commissioned by SRK Consulting, the property contains 16.8 million tonnes of indicated resources, with 4.1% copper and 6.0% zinc. The inferred category contains 12.1 million tonnes of 3.5% copper and 4.9% zinc.
