Lack of water on the moon may drive thorium energy

Thorium, a touted alternative to uranium energy, may get an entirely different push to broader usage: scientist trying to come up with a technology that could power a future moon colony.

Kirk Sorensen, a former aerospace engineer at NASA, discusses the challenges of powering a lunar colony and what thorium may have to offer.

Thorium is touted as having many advantages over uranium, safety and cost being a few of them. However, significant technical hurdles remain.

India is currently building an experimental thorium reactor.
