Rio Tinto names Shell’s Katie Jackson as new copper chief
Jackson, who is the current president of National Grid Ventures, an energy group, joins Rio Tinto on September 1.
This video by mining equipment manufacturer Joy Global, more educational than promotional, gives an excellent overview of longwall, versus room and pillar underground coal mining techniques.
The video clearly explains the difference between the two techniques and gives descriptions of equipment used, including: continuous miners with cutterheads, conveyor systems, rubber-tired shuttle cars, flexible conveyor trains, continuous chain haulage system, longwall mining entry development equipment, and longwall mining system with shearer, armoured face conveyor and roof supports.
