Job description:
Purpose of the role:
Leverage the expertise in geospatial technologies and data analysis to support the Permitting & Land deparment in making informed decisions, conducting spatial analyses, and visualizing and interpreting geographic data. The GIS Advisor plays a critical role in integrating spatial information with environmental data, enabling the team to gain valuable insights into environmental patterns and trends.
In charge of geomatics using a Geographic information System interface with the environmental database of different variables such water quality, hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, air quality, biodiversity, land use,land cover and property & mineral rights. Provide support as back up to the database management specialist.
Key Responsibilities:
Spatial Data Management: Acquire, organize, and manage geospatial datasets, including environmental and land data, remote sensing imagery, and external geographic data sources.
Geospatial Analysis: Conduct spatial analyses to identify patterns, trends, and relationships in environmental data. This may include spatial interpolation, proximity analysis, and overlay operations.
Mapping and Visualization: Create high-quality maps and visualizations to present geospatial information in a clear and informative manner for the team and stakeholders.
Data Integration: Integrate GIS data with other environmental datasets to gain a comprehensive understanding of environmental processes and interactions.
Spatial Modeling: Develop and apply spatial models to predict environmental outcomes or assess potential scenarios.
GIS Training and Support: Provide training and technical support to the environmental Permitting & Land
members on GIS software and applications.
Data Interpretation: Assist in interpreting geospatial data to inform decision-making and support evidence-based environmental management strategies.
Support environmental impact assessments and permitting tasks by providing geospatial analyses of potential impacts associated with projects or developments.
Field work: Lead and conduct field data collection including grownd and drone surveying instruments.
In charge of geomatics using an interface with the environmental database.
Provide support as back up to the database management specialist.
Generate interactive maps using real-time data.
Analysis of geospatial information, using satellite images, areal pictures and other data gathering techniques.
Quality assurance and daily upload of field data, Quality assurance and loading lab reports, Quality assurance of chain of custody, database field sensors verification, external database monitoring, labelling data automatic sensors
Supervise environmental servers and appropriate backup of environmental information
Elaborate maps, reports based in the geographical information
Keep updated the Geographical information database
Upload KPIs gathering from the Permitting & Land department to the database management system
Participate as representative along internal and external audits, as same as participate as auditor in other operation sites of the company
Participate in key operational meetings in English, giving presentations about monitoring conditions, risks, opportunities.
Stay Updated: Stay current with the latest GIS technologies, trends, and best practices relevant to environmental applications.

Qualifications & Knowledge & Experience
Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field. Additional certifications or specialized training in GIS software and applications.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, MapInfo or other geospatial tools is essential. Knowledge of geodatabase management, spatial analysis techniques, cartography, and remote sensing is highly valuable.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to interpret and visualize complex geospatial data with environmental and political variables. Experience with PowerBI and other tools such as MapBox is desirable.
At least 5 years’ experience in extractives industry, or environmental consultancy with demonstrated expertise in geomatics and climate change modelling.
Familiar with national regulatory framework
Driver’s license
