The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking an Engineering Co-op Student at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule. This is a temporary contract (8-12 Months).
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Mine Engineering Co-op Student
Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, Technical Services, the Engineering Co-op Student will apply their engineering knowledge to support both Engineering and Operations teams. As a member of the technical services team, the student will gain hands-on experience across key functions including survey, drill & blast, planning, and data management. This role provides a comprehensive learning opportunity, enhancing technical skills through practical exposure to an open-pit mining operation.
This is a temporary, full-time role, working on a 7-on-7-off rotation of 12-hour day shifts only.
Responsibilities
- Practices safe work behaviours and supports the Copper Mountain Mine safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
- Adheres strictly to PPE requirements in all areas while on mine property,
- Follows all Company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs),
- Survey Support: Assists with survey data collection, processing, and interpretation to support mining operations and other projects,
- Drill & Blast Support: Assists in drill pattern design, blast planning, monitoring, and post-blast analysis,
- Planning Support: Contribute to short-term planning tasks including design, scheduling, and data analysis,
- Field Studies: Participate in field investigations, data collection, and monitoring for various studies related to operations improvement,
- Data QA/QC and Reporting: Perform quality assurance and quality control of collected data, preparing reports and summaries for stakeholders,
- Performs other responsibilities as required.
Education & Experience
- Enrolled in a University degree in Mining Engineering, must be a 2nd year or above student,
- Open-pit mining experience is considered an asset,
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel),
- Experience in SQL, Python, and Surpac are considered an asset,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking, and standing,
- Driving in congested high-traffic mining and construction areas under varying weather conditions,
- Walking in similar congested/high-traffic construction areas as well as more remote areas on site (uneven footing is commonplace),
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs.

- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada,
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements.
