About The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, you will act as a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team, providing coaching, guidance and expertise to strengthen leadership capability and embed Rio Tinto's operating systems across the operation.
Your focus will be on developing leaders, improving operational discipline, implementing best practice management systems and creating sustainable capability that will support long-term operational success.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys influencing through coaching, mentoring and collaboration and who is passionate about leaving a lasting legacy through people development.
What You'll Be Doing
You will
- Coach and mentor operational leaders to strengthen leadership capability and operational decision making.
- Embed Rio Tinto Operating Systems, operational standards and governance across the business.
- Support leaders to improve safety performance, operational discipline and reliability.
- Conduct operational health checks and identify opportunities to improve performance and maturity.
- Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives and structured problem solving.
- Guide leaders in implementing effective operating rhythms, governance forums and performance management processes.
- Support operational readiness, commissioning and ramp-up activities.
- Build capability within the national workforce through coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer.
- Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, HSE, Operational Readiness and Project teams to improve overall operational performance.
- Promote a culture where safety, learning, accountability and continuous improvement are embedded into everyday work.
What You'll Bring
You are a respected operational leader with extensive mining experience and a passion for developing others.
You will have
- Extensive experience in large-scale Rio Tinto mining operations.
- Deep understanding of Rio Tinto operating systems, governance and operational excellence practices.
- Demonstrated success coaching senior operational leaders and frontline leadership teams.
- Experience implementing management operating systems and driving organisational capability improvements.
- A proven ability to influence without direct authority and build trusted relationships across diverse teams.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience supporting operational readiness, commissioning or major project ramp-ups will be highly regarded.
A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Mining, Metallurgy, Operations Management or a related discipline is required. Leadership, Lean, Six Sigma or continuous improvement qualifications are advantageous.

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
