Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Purpose
The Trades Assistant assists process electricians, instrument technicians and HVAC technicians to perform their duties. Tasks routinely include preparation and general maintenance of tools and materials, delivery of people and materials as a group around the site (upon approval of the E&I Superintendent). Additional duties include being rostered to work in the E&I tool crib to issue and care for tools and equipment and generally perform any other duty required to help the Process E&I maintenance team function effectively.
Essential Duties
- Accountable for the staging and layout of required tools, equipment and materials aligned with the workday’s scheduled assignment.
- Assist in the performance of tasks associated with maintenance of the Process area electrical & instrumentation equipment
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and ensure proper staging of all parts and supplies are in order
- Act as a safety observer/spotter for tasks that are near live electrical equipment.
- Perform housekeeping and cleaning and general preventive maintenance as directed
- Performs other duties as assigned

Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Secondary School Diploma (MULO/LBO/LTO)
Experience:
- Entry Level Position
- Experience in mining, construction, utilities or other heavy industry is highly regarded
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to converse in English and Dutch at a basic standard.
- Commitment to personal safety and safety of others.
- Desire to acquire knowledge and skills through experience & study.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, hazards and electrical safety.
- Holder of a Suriname light truck driver’s license for more with at least 2 years driving experience and no recorded traffic accidents.
