Overview
Join AtkinsRéalis as a Principal Marine Structural Engineer within our Ports & Marine team. This senior technical leadership role provides accountability for the delivery, technical excellence, and strategic direction of complex ports and marine projects. You will serve as a trusted technical authority, mentor senior engineers, engage directly with clients, and support the continued growth and maturity of the Ports & Marine practice.
Location: This role will be based anywhere in Canada, preferably in British Columbia, Ontario, or the Maritimes.
Your role
Reports to: Team Lead / Director, Ports & Marine – Western Canada
Act as technical authority and escalation point for complex and high-risk marine structural projects.
Define and approve design approaches, standards, and methodologies for ports and marine infrastructure.
Lead and review advanced structural analyses and independent engineering checks.
Provide technical oversight and direction to senior and intermediate engineers.
Oversee QA/QC across project deliverables and ensure alignment with applicable codes and standards.
Support and contribute to proposal development, including scope definition, fee estimation, and technical content.
Maintain trusted client relationships and provide senior technical input to support long-term client needs.
Provide construction-phase technical leadership and resolve complex field issues.
Mentor senior engineers and support technical progression and succession planning within the Ports & Marine team.
About you
B.A.Sc./B.Eng. in Civil or Structural Engineering; M.Eng./M.A.Sc. an asset.
P.Eng. (EGBC) with ability to obtain registration in other Canadian jurisdictions.
Approximately 12 to 18+ years of experience in the design and delivery of ports and marine structures.
Recognized technical expert with strong engineering judgment and accountability for technical decisions.
Extensive experience with reinforced concrete, steel, and foundation systems in marine environments.
Proven leadership in technical reviews, mentoring, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Excellent communication skills for senior client engagement and technical leadership.
Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $117,200 - $161,200 annually ($60,10 -$82,67/hour). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role.
