Company Description
Anglo American (AA) Woodsmith Mine in the UK will be a fully integrated operation from pit to port.
A fully integrated pit‑to‑port operation brings mining, internal logistics, processing, export functions, and business planning operations into a single, digitally connected value chain, with Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) working as one secure ecosystem. The backbone of this integration is a standards‑driven architecture, particularly the IEC 62443 series, which provides the global benchmark for securing industrial automation and control systems in converged environments.
A fully integrated, standards‑aligned pit‑to‑port operation delivers:
- End‑to‑end visibility of production, logistics, and asset health.
- Improved safety, as real‑time data enables proactive hazard management.
- Higher throughput, with synchronised scheduling across mine, logistics, processing, and port.
- Stronger cyber‑resilience, reducing the risk of disruptions that could halt production or compromise safety systems.
- Data‑driven optimisation, enabling advanced analytics, digital twins, and automated decision‑making.
To enable this vision, the Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) must be designed in collaboration with the project partners and stakeholders e.g. feasibility study contractor, future EPCM contractors, technology providers, and vendors.
