About The Opportunity
We are looking for a
Director, Strategy & Public Affairs BC to join our Centerra Corporate team who will be responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of the organization’s long-term strategic plan based out of
Vancouver, BC.
This role evaluates internal and external factors impacting performance, identifies opportunities and risks, and recommends initiatives that drive sustainable growth and organizational effectiveness. The Director works closely with senior leadership to set strategic priorities and ensure successful execution across the organization. Additionally, this role must represent Centerra externally, including representation in First Nations negotiations, and be responsible for strategic communications by developing the narrative or communications plan that enables the implementation of the company strategy in BC.
Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Develop comprehensive long-term strategic plans aligned with organizational goals and priorities.
- Conduct organizational assessments, including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT).
- Analyze market trends, policy developments, and competitor activity to inform strategic decision-making.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact.
- Collaborate with senior management to define strategic direction and performance objectives.
- Oversee the execution of strategic initiatives and ensure alignment with approved plans.
- Monitor progress against strategic goals, evaluate outcomes, and adjust plans as necessary.
- Prepare and deliver strategic reports, findings, and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
Government, Ind & Stakeholder Relations
- Develop and maintain strong, respectful, and mutually beneficial relationships with government officials, industry partners, and key stakeholders.
- Monitor legislative and policy changes that may affect the organization and advise leadership accordingly.
- Conduct and support negotiations related to land claims, service agreements, and other benefit agreements with First Nations and relevant partners.
- Represent the organization in strategic discussions, consultations, and public forums.
Reputation & Communications Strategy
- Shape and manage public perception by developing fact-based narratives that support the organization’s objectives.
- Engage stakeholders across digital platforms and other communication channels to strengthen organizational reputation.
- Support proactive and responsive communication strategies that enhance trust and credibility.
About You
The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:
- A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience within the mining or natural resource industry.
- Minimum 7 years in a leadership role, with direct interaction with executive leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, political science, business administration, social or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, policy analysis, or executive advisory roles.
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to translate complex information into actionable strategies.
- Proven leadership and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside senior executives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation to executive and external audiences.
- Experience in negotiation and stakeholder engagement, including work with Indigenous communities and government agencies.
- Strong understanding of industry trends, regulatory environments, and public affairs.
