Wood is currently recruiting for a Project Management Officer (PMO) to join our Power Industrials team in Madrid on a staff basis, offering a hybrid work arrangement at our Madrid office.
The Role
The Project Management Officer (PMO) provides leadership, governance and assurance for the Project Management (PM) function, ensuring predictable, high‑quality delivery across the portfolio. The PMO will champion a consistent way of working through company standards, processes, procedures, systems and behaviours, and drive safe, ethical and inclusive performance. Part of the role is to support contract, project and portfolio execution by providing direction, coaching and intervention when required, including during start‑up and other critical phases.

Responsibilities
- Set and monitor delivery objectives, budgets and targets; report on opportunities, risks and performance
- Ensure operational integrity including subcontractor management, change control, and adherence to financial, safety and quality controls
- Participate in technical audits and peer reviews; deploy corrective actions and lessons learned
- Contribute to proposals and tenders by applying PM best practice and ensuring appropriate PM strategy and key PM resources are identified
- Ensure effective handover from proposals to operations and alignment of delivery commitments
- Foster and enhance customer relationships, collaborating across business units to shape solutions that meet client needs
- Attend and / or chair periodic project reviews; represent the PM function at portfolio and governance forums
- Ensure robust risk management practices: identification, assessment, registers, mitigation planning and monitoring of emerging risks and opportunities
- Drive commercial discipline including change management and margin improvement levers; ensure effective cash and return management where applicable
- Establish effective working relationships with Contract / Programme Managers, Discipline Managers and enabling functions (e.g., HR, Finance, HSSE&S)
- Interface with Technical functions on governance reviews, technical improvements and deployment of subject matter expertise
- Represent the PM function externally with clients, vendors and relevant professional bodies; attend conferences and key meetings as required
- Develop, own and maintain local PM processes and procedures aligned to corporate requirements and best practice
- Ensure robust governance mechanisms: gate reviews, proposal execution reviews, project sponsorship, governance plans, and oversight of audits
- Maintain project performance dashboards and establish reporting & review cadences for projects within remit
- Visibly lead HSSE&S and drive a proactive safety culture across all projects and teams
- Ensure compliance with company HSSE&S rules, policies and procedures; stop and report unsafe acts and conditions; promote learning from events
- Recruit, develop and retain a motivated and competent PM community; manage performance of direct reports and address underperformance promptly
- Lead talent pipelines including graduates and trainees; deploy PM induction / onboarding and ensure continuing professional development (e.g., academies, professional bodies)
- Plan succession and develop future leaders; coach, mentor and empower teams to make decisions within defined parameters

Expected
- Degree in Project Management, Engineering or relevant technical/commercial discipline
- Extensive experience in senior project management roles in the Power / Energy industry. Relevant experience with an extensive track record of successful operational and strategic delivery in a Technical Organisation
- Expertise in PM tools, processes and procedures; strong stakeholder management, communication and conflict resolution skills
- High commercial acumen with experience in KPI models, change management and margin / cash improvement
Desirable
- Advanced Degree in Project Management, Engineering or relevant technical/commercial discipline
- Professional PM certification (e.g., PMP / PMI®, ChPP / APM) or equivalent
