Loulo Gold Mine is seeking to recruit an
Underground Safety & Training Superintendent to join and grow their team.
Reporting to the OHS Manager, the Underground Safety & Training Superintendent must ensure compliance and implementation of safety programs to maintain a safe, hazard / accident-free workplace and to ensure compliance with Barrick policies and procedures and with local legislation.

Responsibilities
- Comply with Barrick’s established health and safety policies, procedures, practices and Occupational Health and Safety Acts.
- Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.
- Actively ensure a safe environment for yourself, your peers and local communities through regular communication and due diligence.
- Promptly report and correct unsafe acts and conditions.
- Actively ensure that fatal risks are understood and critical controls are maintained.
- Deliver comprehensive Health and Safety training to promote, develop and sustain a positive Health and Safety awareness culture.
- Provide appropriate risk assessment methodology to comply with legislation and ensure all potential risks are identified and control measures implemented and monitored.
- Lead the Underground Safety team in effective and efficient implementation of the Safety Management System.
- Analyse workplace condition inspection reports, planned task observations reports, and non-conformity reports to identify significant risks posing threats to underground operations and recommend the necessary corrective actions.
- Coordinate the mine occupational health and hygiene and site emergency preparedness and disaster management services.
- Development and review of standards, procedures, and codes of practice etc.
- Ensure safety inspections are conducted in the allocated areas to ensure that the mine complies with ISO45001:2018 & legal requirements.
- Review, compile, analyse and interpret data from incident and loss event reports and other sources regarding injuries, illnesses, and property damage, to identify causes, trends, and relationships.
- Promote an OHS culture that mitigates the risk of injury to personnel and damage to the underground operations and equipment.
- Develop a safety training matrix for all employees and ensure all employees are trained per the schedule.
- Manage the integration and operations of contractors on site.
- Participate in Incident Investigations, finding the root causes and taking remedial actions and follow up for close out.
- Train, coach, and mentor subordinate personnel to ensure that consistent levels of service are achieved.
- Ensure that adequate health and safety training has been given and that all employees are competent to perform their assigned duties.
- Accurate reporting of Safety KPI’s.
- Keep abreast of any new methods, trends and technological developments pertaining to safety.
- Identify safety and training needs during work area visits and advise on the upgrading of training programs and courses to ensure that all employees are properly trained to perform their tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelors Degree/ Diploma in Safety and Health / Risk Management
Experience And Competencies Needed
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a safety role within the mining industry with at least 5 years management/ supervisory experience,
- Must have underground experience and a good understanding of UG Mining operations.
- Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to conduct analysis and write detailed reports.
- Computer literate, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook.
