Job Description
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Evaluate mining site network needs and design a robust WAN architecture utilizing appropriate technologies
- Plan for network redundancy and disaster recovery strategies to minimize downtime in critical operations.
- Efficiently oversee expenses related to the global network infrastructure, ensuring transparency and effectiveness in managing investment decisions and budget allocations to maintain equipment health.
- Oversee the installation and configuration of network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points at mine sites and other global location
- Actively monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and troubleshoot connectivity issues
- Perform a monthly assessment of service delivery, with a specific focus on support vendor contributions. Oversee vendor performance to ensure adherence to contractual obligations for services and projects
- Serve as the primary escalation point for incidents or intricate site incidents concerning networking and communication infrastructure.
- Understand technological trends and use this knowledge to bring solutions to business units supported to enhance the enterprise’s competitive edge.
- Oversee and coordinate frameworks, designs, blueprints and restoration plans that isolate problems and implement pre-planned alternative routes or systems to restore service in networks and communication environments.
- Promote and enforce business and technology standards, as well as best practices, within Networking environments
Qualifications
- An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors degree/Diploma or equivalent) in relevant IM Discipline
- It would be advantageous to have a postgraduate qualification in the related IM discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity.
- Registration with professional bodies (Desirable)
Certifications
- Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence
- Desirable: CompTIA Security+
- Cisco Certified Entry Networking
- Technician (CCENT)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate –
- Routing and Switching (CCNA)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate –
- Security (CCNA-Security)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Enterprise certification.
Experience
- 5- 7 years working experience in similar role
Technical knowledge(experience) required for role:
- Proven track record of implementing and maintaining WAN infrastructure for region mining operations and offices in global locations
- Expert in WAN technologies and networking protocols
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in networking protocols, network security and information management systems is essential.
- Deep understanding of networking protocols like TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, and OSPF
- Proficiency in specialized tools and technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and network monitoring software, is essential.
- Ensure vendors are held accountable for meeting SLA indicators.
- Liaise with solutions design and architecture to ensure that roadmaps are followed and services are introduced with excellence
