Job Description
The Lead Network Administrator’s role is to ensure the stability, security and integrity of the Global WAN and datacenter. The Network Administrator will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide training to other IT Staff to ensure there are adequate personnel resources for projects and support at all times.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Collaborate with executive management to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes and service records.
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
- Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
- Continual focus on security and integrity of the computer network to minimize vulnerabilities and reduce risk for the organization.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Design and deploy improvements to the company’s WAN including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, Firewalls, telephony, and other solutions (Cisco, Meraki, Zscaler, Watchguard, etc).
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software purchases, licensing, upgrades.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services under the direction of the Manager, Global Technology Operations.
Operational Management
- Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
- Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
- Patch management implementation, operations, and procedures to maintain currency and ensure security.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Monitor, analyze, and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
- Participate in managing all network security solutions including security and defects vulnerability assessment.
- Perform server and security audits, and system backups and recovery.
- Interface with various stakeholders regarding projects, implementation, and operational issues.
- Manage and/or provide guidance to other members of the team for support purposes and project task execution.
- Adhere to service desk, incident management, and change management procedures (Service Now).
- Manage and report time accurately as per assignments and job requirements.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: Four-year university degree or college diploma in computer related field or equivalent practical experience.
- ITIL v3 Foundation training.
- Certification in prevalent network technologies (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
Work Experience
- Required: 8+ years’ experience managing a global network environment.
Knowledge And Experience Required
- Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
- Experience leading, mentoring and motivating other team members to achieve goals and deliver projects outcomes.
- Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
- Solid understanding of network, switching, routing, and communication protocols including VPN.
- Technical working knowledge of firewall configuration and management (Watchguard, Meraki).
- Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
- Experience with network management and monitoring tools.
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Extensive application support experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams Dialing
- Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
- Experience with telephony solutions (digital and/or VoIP)
- Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws such as GDPR.
- Fluent English language skills.
