The Mining Geologist at IAMGOLD plays a critical role in supporting operations and strategic initiatives while ensuring best practices maximize value and minimize risk. Reporting to the Senior Director of Mining Geology, you work closely with teams across the organization, including mine sites and project locations, providing geological expertise that strengthens IAMGOLD’s projects. You are involved in conducting detailed resource assessments, validating geological models, and upholding data integrity while leveraging advanced geological software and techniques.
In this role, you drive governance and compliance by helping site teams continuously improve resource models to meet industry best practices. You develop and enforce internal policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures for mineral resource and mineral reserve (MRMR) estimation, ensuring site compliance. You support MRMR exercises, audits, and reporting requirements while contributing to the enhancement of reconciliation processes and reporting practices across all sites. You also assist in preparing and filing NI 43-101 Technical Reports or similar regulatory submissions.
As a subject matter expert in mining geology, you assess mineral resource estimation processes, geostatistical data, and quality control protocols for sampling and assaying (QA/QC). You evaluate geological models, assess reconciliation processes, and support site teams with grade control models to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Your role includes conducting mine site visits for due diligence reviews, preparing technical reports, and providing training and technical support on mineral resource estimations.
Job Qualifications
What You Need to Succeed
To thrive in this role, you must have a post-secondary education in geology or geological engineering and be a member of a recognized professional association in Ontario or Québec. You bring experience in resource estimation, database validation, and 3D modeling within a production environment, with QP resource experience considered an asset. Knowledge of database management systems, QAQC principles, and the relationship between planning and mineral resource estimation will set you apart. Experience in open-pit and/or underground mining, including model reconciliation and grade controls, is an asset. You should be proficient in geological software such as Leapfrog, Gems, MineSight, or Vulcan, and familiarity with SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite, and Power BI is a plus. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with excellent communication and teamwork abilities, make you an invaluable part of the team. Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
