The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Senior Metallurgist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday, Day shift.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Metallurgy Superintendent, the Senior Metallurgist will be responsible for leading the Metallurgists and Technicians while providing technical support to the Mill Operation teams. Your expertise will help optimize processes and improve the efficiency and stability of operations, ensuring that production targets are met and exceeded.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies,
- Direct supervision, guidance and mentorship of Metallurgists, Metallurgical Technicians and Coop/Summer students to ensure all team members work safely in accordance with applicable legislation, company policies, standards, and procedures,
- Plan and schedule metallurgical work plans to meet departmental goals, KPIs, project milestones, and deadlines,
- Monitor and report on plant performance, identify sources of variability and make recommendations for improvements to increase stability and efficiency,
- Take lead on complex technical projects and guide Metallurgists & Metallurgical Technicians to support these projects,
- Conduct metallurgical trials, support pilot plants, and oversee the commissioning of new processing equipment,
- Conduct month-end inventory reconciliations and other routine reporting requirements,
- Collaboration on budget and forecast reporting requirements,
- Aid in hiring a Metallurgy team,
- Perform other duties as required.
Education & Experience
- University degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited program,
- Registered member, or qualified to register, with EGBC,
- Minimum 5-10 years of technical experience in a related processing environment with an understanding of optimizing processes,
- Experience and competency in mineral processing, specifically with comminution and copper/gold flotation experience,
- Strong statistical analysis, presentation, and technical report writing skills,
- Proven ability to analyze complex problems, prioritize issues, and develop timely and cost-effective solutions,
- A growth mindset & drive, to be open to new ideas to continuously improve and support our Plant, our Team & ourselves.
Required Skills
- Positive can-do attitude with a willingness to learn new skills,
- Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills,
- Superior skill with Microsoft Excel and PI/RT duet is essential,
- Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multitasking, use of timelines and time management techniques,
- Strong communicator – Ability to work across discipline and geographic boundaries, connecting people to collaboratively solve problems,
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing,
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and have access to personal transportation,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions
- Environment is susceptible to the weather as a combination of office and fieldwork is required,
- Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
- Work will require to be clean-shaven,
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing.
Salary Range
$120,000.00 - $140,000.00 / Annum
