Hudbay (TSX, NYSE: HBM) is a copper-focused mining company with three long-life operations and a world-class pipeline of copper growth projects in tier-one mining-friendly jurisdictions of Canada, Peru and the United States. Hudbay’s operating portfolio includes the Constancia mine in Cusco (Peru), the Snow Lake operations in Manitoba (Canada) and the Copper Mountain mine in British Columbia (Canada). Copper is the primary metal produced by the company, which is complemented by meaningful gold production. Hudbay’s growth pipeline includes the Copper World project in Arizona, the Mason project in Nevada (United States), the Llaguen project in La Libertad (Peru) and several expansion and exploration opportunities near its existing operations.
Purpose of Role:
Oversee FP&A function for our Canadian Business Units - Manitoba (“MBU”) and British Columbia (“BCU”) including the development and maintenance of a variety of financial models, analyses and processes which support management reporting, financial accounting and strategic decision making within the respective Business Units.
Role Accountabilities:
- Preparation of the overall structure and architecture of the MBU and BCU long-range plan (“LRP”) and short-range plan (“SRP”) models to provide needed functionalities for all users in consultation with the finance and operations functions at the business units.
- Delivery of reliable business unit level budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans to support business decisions.
- Business unit level management reporting, budget presentations and ad-hoc analysis as required.
- Analytical support to functional groups within the business units and corporate office.
- Center of modelling and process documentation excellence within Hudbay which can be deployed to assist other functional areas at their request.
- Subject matter expert and power-user of planning system including assistance with expansion of system to corporate office and other business units.
- Lead development of robust forecasting, budgeting, and planning processes within MBU and BCU.
- Post-implementation capital project reviews.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Post secondary degree in business, accounting or engineering.
- Financial modelling experience.
- CPA or CFA Designation is an asset.
- Mining industry experience is an asset.
- Hyperion planning system experience is an asset.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Financial modelling best practices.
- IFRS accounting treatments preferably specific to mining industry.
- Business valuations principals (discounted cash flow, net present value, return on invested capital, internal rate of return).
- Financial modelling including best practices.
- Ability to distill large amounts of data into meaningful, insightful, and succinct analysis and recommendations, plus prepare effective data visualization/presentations to executives using PowerPoint or Bi tools (such as PowerBI)
- Excellent people skills to be used in building constructive working relationships across the boundaries of the Hudbay organization, characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect.
- Demonstrated penchant for challenging the status quo and driving results and process improvements, in particular, proven ability to drive improvements in business unit reporting.
- A logical, analytic thinker who takes a numeric, process-based approach to problem solving.
- Ideally a leader who can envision future direction of functional area and independently drive team and organizational change to achievement.
Travel:
10%-15% travel- site visits as needed.
Working Arrangements:
Role is eligible for flexible work arrangements, allowing you to balance 50% of your time in the office with 50% time working remotely.
