We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
As
Master Technician Mechanical you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Safe and Healthy Work Environment
- Uphold safety standards during maintenance work to protect personnel and equipment, while ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.
- Perform all work in accordance with SHEQ standards.
- Thoroughly read, sign off, and adhere to all relevant work instructions and standards.
- Attend safety meetings as instructed.
- Maintain cleanliness in your allocated area and apply good housekeeping practices to ensure a hazard-free environment.
- Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments, and close-out of Safety Actions.
- Performance and Delivery
- Equipment Inspection and Maintenance
- Conduct regular inspections of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Perform routine checks to assess the condition of machinery, identifying any signs of wear or potential failure.
- Assist in the development and execution of preventive maintenance plans
- Collaborate with the Mechanical Technologist to create schedules for maintenance tasks that prevent breakdowns and extend the lifespan of equipment.
- Troubleshooting and Repair
- Diagnose mechanical failures and implement effective repair strategies.
- Utilize technical expertise to quickly identify issues and apply the appropriate repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
- Participate in root cause analysis.
- Engage in systematic investigations of equipment failures to determine underlying causes, aiming to prevent recurrence.
- Data Monitoring and Analysis
- Monitor asset health through data analysis.
- Collect and analyze performance data from machinery to track efficiency and identify trends that may indicate potential problems.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, enabling effective tracking of equipment history and performance.
- Collaboration and Development
- Collaborate with the Mechanical Technologist and work closely with engineering leadership to enhance maintenance protocols and address reliability challenges.
- Support the implementation of reliability-centered maintenance initiatives.
- Assist in adopting strategies focused on maintaining system reliability while optimizing costs and resources.
- Training and Mentorship
- Train and mentor junior technicians by sharing knowledge and skills with less experienced team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
This role is in the Engineering (ENG) at a Band 7 level reporting to the Mechanical Technologist.
Qualifications
- Grade 12/N3 Technical
- Higher National Qualification Mechanical Engineering on NQF5
- Trade Certificate in a Mechanical Field
- A2 Safety Training
- SA Drivers License Code B
Experience
- Knowledge of technical aspects of mechanical maintenance obtained through 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with mining maintenance operations (advantageous).
- Awareness of processes, working culture, and challenges associated with mining and processing.
- Understand relevant mining legislation and its application.
- Comprehension of analytical methods, problem-solving techniques, and coordination strategies.
- Knowledge of technical drawing and design, particularly in the mining industry.
- Insight into documentation, sign-off, and approval processes.
- Awareness of risk management techniques and critical controls.
- Understanding safety, health, and environmental legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
