Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will work with project teams on civil engineering and related technical assignments. Assignments may include design and analysis, civil engineering design with CADD modeling software, construction plan and specification preparation, and spreadsheet preparation. Responsibilities may involve report writing, large report production, construction cost estimating, construction observation, and facility inspections. The work will also include field time at specific client job sites.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
Willingness and ability to travel regularly
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Flexible working style, self-initiative, self-motivation, and a willingness to work with teams to meet clients' needs and project schedules
Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results
Familiarity with Microsoft Office software and Civil 3D
A flexible working style and a willingness to modify schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future, or the ability to obtain a TN Visa
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
2 + years of related work experience
Academic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
Field experience on construction sites and with construction observation
Familiarity with soil testing procedures and evaluation of test results
Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or other CADD-based civil design software
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified or ability to obtain within one year
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, office.
Note: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. A physical exam may be required, and safety training will be provided.
