Job Description
De Beers Group has a full-time permanent opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer within the Fixed Equipment Maintenance group at the Gahcho Kué Mine located in the Northwest Territories. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer to join our team and support the maintenance and reliability of fixed equipment at our mining site. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and longevity of fixed equipment in the process plant. This includes developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance strategies, conducting regular inspections, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a site-based position on a 4 days in/3 days out rotation with the pick-up point in Yellowknife, NT or one (1) week in and one (1) week out rotation with the pick-up point in Calgary, AB.
As a Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating all maintenance activities, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. You will work closely with the reliability engineering team to implement best practices and innovative solutions that enhance equipment performance and reliability. Your expertise will be essential in minimizing downtime, reducing maintenance costs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
In this role, you will also provide technical support and training to maintenance personnel, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Your ability to analyze data, generate reports, and provide insights on equipment performance will be crucial in driving informed decision-making and achieving our operational goals.
The ideal candidate is committed to safe working practices and strive for zero harm and will have a strong background in mechanical maintenance, preferably in the mining industry, with a proven track record of enhancing equipment reliability and performance. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Safety: Drive safety mindset through participation in site programs including field level risk assessments, Team Risk Assessments, Field Interactions and Fatal Risk Audits. Oversee the identification, specification, monitoring and verification of Critical Controls pertaining to maintenance Safety. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies during maintenance activities. Promote a culture of safety within the maintenance team.
- Maintenance Planning and Scheduling: Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance plans and schedules for fixed equipment, including crushers, conveyors, pumps, and other stationary machinery. Ensure that maintenance activities are carried out efficiently and effectively to minimize downtime.
- Inspections and Assessments: Conduct regular inspections and assessments of fixed equipment to identify potential issues, wear and tear, and areas for improvement. Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
- Troubleshooting and Repairs: Quickly and effectively troubleshoot mechanical problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to resolve issues. Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely repairs and minimal disruption to operations.
- Collaboration and Best Practices: Work closely with the reliability engineering team to implement industry best practices and innovative solutions for equipment maintenance and reliability. Share knowledge and expertise to enhance team performance.
- Maintenance Activities Management: Manage and coordinate all maintenance activities, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Ensure that maintenance tasks are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory. Generate reports and provide insights to management on equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
- Technical Support and Training: Provide technical support and training to maintenance personnel. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages skill development and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in the mining industry focused on fixed equipment.
- Strong knowledge of fixed equipment maintenance and reliability practices.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to mining equipment maintenance.
- Certification in maintenance management or reliability engineering.
