Purpose
- To ensure the safe and efficient maintenance and management of assets for the mill, primary and secondary crushing plants, and tailing/effluent treatment facilities to meet or exceed safety, production, costs and availability targets, while ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
- To organize, co-ordinate and direct electrical maintenance activities, ensuring that the work is performed in the safest and most cost effective manner by managing all resources towards complying to the maintenance schedules with the least negative impact on the production plan.
- To source key equipment for various projects and insure compatibility with existing equipment
- Design and install electrical equipment and cabling insure continued electrical supply to all equipment for the mine operations
- To organize, co-ordinate and manage the preventative maintenance program following the Asset Management guidelines to implement reliability centered maintenance strategy, planning for short & long-term maintenance
- To ensure plans are communicated to all affected departments
- Spare supervisor as required
Essential Duties
- Responsible for development, monitoring and improvement of safety performance for all employees working in the mill, crushing plants, plate shop and tailing/ETP facilities.
- Responds to emergency situations and unusual operating or maintenance conditions to ensure the safety of personnel and limit potential negative impacts on production and costs.
- Responsible for ensuring the mill, crushing plants, and tailing facilities remain in compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Responsible for maintaining a high standard of housekeeping in all areas within the mill, crushing plants and tailing facilities..
- Promotes and monitors the utilization of the Safe Map program, Safety Innovation and Unsafe Condition programs, incident reporting and accident investigations. Ensures timely follow-up and implementation of corrective measures.
- Participates in the development of Health and Safety action plans and conducts random Safety Tours. Ensures adequate and timely follow-up to identified issues and action items.
- Provides leadership and direction for mill maintenance, crusher crews, plate shop and site services.
- Holds meetings to ensure that employees are kept informed of safety, production, maintenance issues and cost performance statistics, to encourage growth and participation in potential improvements to each KPI.
- Liases with Mill Operations to ensure maintenance activities enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of mining operations.
- Works closely with the Mill Operations coordinator and Metallurgist coordinator to ensure efficient planning, coordination and execution of work.
- Procurement of parts and parts tracking for planned jobs in conjunction with the purchasing department.
- Aiding with the preparation of annual budgets
- Preparing monthly reports that include cost to date and work completed or outstanding for the month
- Through workplace inspections, interactions, and improvement programs, develops modifications to mill equipment, procedures, and policies to improve safety, increase asset life and/or performance and reduce costs. Ensures that modifications will be cost effective.
- Works closely with the Metallurgist coordinator on enhancement projects and initiatives that will yield benefits. Ensures timely execution of these initiatives
Essential Duties Continued
- Participates in strategic planning and preparation of annual maintenance and operating budgets
- Identify opportunities for improvements (training, tools, energy management etc.)
- Co-ordinate efforts between engineering ,mine and geology to determine priorities then
- Co-ordinate maintenance activities between the Maintenance and production front line supervisors
- Preparation and review of detailed work plans that include step by step instructions, safety considerations, special tasks or tools, weights of components, parts lists, type of lubricants to be used, etc
- Review of PM’s to assess their usefulness and determine updates as required.
- Short & long term planning
- Procurement of parts and parts tracking for planned jobs in conjunction with the purchasing department.
- Aiding with the preparation of annual budgets
- Preparing monthly reports that include cost to date and work completed or outstanding for the month
- Optimizing repair schedules
- Implementing processes and systems to aid with planning functions and other duties as assigned
Training & Experience
- Degree, Technical Diploma, Valid Trades Certificate or equivalent work experience and/or training.
- Minimum 10 years experience in asset management and maintenance practices, surface/underground electrical equipment maintenance related experience.
- PLC, fiber optics, remote control, and hoist experience a definite asset
- Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.
- A solid background in the maintenance, operation and optimization of crushing and grinding plants, process control, tailing management, and effluent treatment.
- Must be self motivated and have the ability to motivate others and initiate change that yields positive results in terms of safety, the environment, production and cost management in the crusher/mill areas.
- A solid knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants is essential.
- Must have a practical understanding and the ability to interpret electrical diagrams as they relate to high & low voltage power distributions, P.L.C’s, radio remote controls, leaky feeder systems, motors (including synchronous), and DC drives (locomotives & Hoist). Must have the experience to offer sound technical expertise with regards to maintenance issues with any of these systems.
- A strong working knowledge of mining equipment, electrical maintenance procedures, and legislative requirements as it relates to mining equipment, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and the electrical code (Ontario and Canadian standards
Working Conditions
The successful candidate will follow a schedule of 4X3, Monday to Thursday at 10.5 hours a day.
