Israel thwarting West Bank mining

Palestinian stonemasons in the West Bank are asking for Israeli-imposed constraints to be lifted in order to grow their businesses.

The West Bank stonemasons have made clear that instead of the newly proposed $4 billion in aid from the US, they want more permits and an end to confiscation of their machinery by Israeli officials.

In a Thursday report, Al Jazeera claimed that Israel’s obstruction of mining expansion is “denying tens of thousands of unemployed Palestinians the chance to work.”

The struggle of the stonemasons is part of a wider problem of economic restrictions in the West Bank, addressed in a March 19 report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
