The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) recognized Iris Dorsett (ROAD safety officer at Bathurst Regional Council) for her education program “Mining Safer Roads” which is used in NSW Australia in remote mining areas, reports the Western Advocate. The program includes interactive presentations and workshops focused on the dangers of speed and fatigue and the importance of driving to climatic and road conditions.
Bathurst Mayor Greg Westman said: “Road safety is a major concern for mine workers, and this program is making an important contribution. It helps participants to develop a greater awareness of the risks and responsibilities associated with driving, and to take steps to make safety a priority. We’re very proud of her achievement.”
