International Mining reports that a MIPAC implementation is to improve throughput and recovery rates for the zinc concentrator in Mt Isa. The solution uses CSense(r) technology.

MIPAC, a provider of process control technologies, is working with Xstrata to improve operations in its Mt Isa concentrator. MIPAC will help Xstrata to automate and optimise key processes in the plant with the provision of an advanced control solution that integrates with existing systems and should lead to a significant improvement in throughput and recovery of precious metal.

MIPAC is working onsite in Mt Isa to understand first-hand Xstrata’s operational requirements and ensure the solution is designed to specifically meet the operating goals of the plant. The end result will be an advanced control strategy that automates key processes and optimises plant operating strategies.

“MIPAC is pleased to work with a customer who recognises the value of implementing an advanced control strategy, using the latest available technology. By undertaking this project Xstrata will substantially increase production and stabilise operations at these increased levels.” said Tony Mathison, Product Management Director, MIPAC

The solution will be implemented using expert control technology from the CSense online environment. MIPAC is a CSense Solution Partner and using CSense allows for a flexible, real-time solution that will be tailored for the concentrator and its production objectives.

The project provides a plant wide solution including rod mills; flotation; IsaMill fine grind and the SAG mill.  It will be implemented in four phases and will be completed before the end of 2008.
