A new report details subpar investor returns in the mining industry over the last decade, particularly big cap diversified companies which have not adapted to new realities.

There is a major gap in your history of gold. It does not even mention the mining of gold by ancient civilisations in Africa other than the Egyptian civilization, or the gold rush in South Africa or the discovery of the Witwatersrand gold field, the richest gold field of all time. At one stage the Witwatersrand accounted for three-quarters of the gold production of the free world, with one company Anglo American producing as much as 45 % of the world’s gold. It also does not mention the gold rush in Australia.
