The Global Investor Commission on Mining 2030 has a new open call for nominations to the Steering Committee and investor membership.

The Global Investor Commission was launched earlier this year at the London Stock Exchange with the support of the United Nations, the Principles for Responsible Investment, the Australian Council for Superannuation Investors, with supporting statements from the chief executives of BHP, Rio Tinto and Anglo American, as well as the archbishops of Canterbury and Cape Town and Brumadinho community activist, Angelica Andrade.

The commission recognizes the mining industry’s role in the transition to a low-carbon economy, and considers key systemic issues faced by the mining sector that currently challenge, or could challenge, existing good practice and the sector’s social licence to operate.

It aims to ensure that the significant growth in demand for transition minerals is a positive contributor to development and the global energy transition.

Joining the Global Investor Commission on Mining 2030 means being able to collaborate with field experts and contribute to solving the most pressing challenges facing the industry.

New members can make an impact in shaping the direction of the sector and drive responsible mining practices that benefit both communities and investors, the commission said in a media release.

The commission is particularly looking to bring on more stakeholders from key mining territories and across the Global South.

The application process is open until May 19. Learn more here.
