The big protests in Romania have clipped Gabriel Resources (TSE:GBU) 13.53% over the last five days and it is now trading at $1.46.
The stock’s 52-week range is $1.11 to $2.94.
On Tuesday Romania’s President Traian Basescu suggested there may be a referendum on the mine after thousands took to the streets. The crowds were angry that a draft bill had been reached between the government and the company on licensing and revenue sharing.
The protests have gained traction in social media.
Reporting about the protests by Al Jazeera made the front page of Reddit. A Facebook page seeking to turn Rosia Montana into a UNESCO world Heritage site has 117,000 likes. And there has been chatter on Twitter.

Yup….those look like the poor impoverished faces of the locals. Only proves two things:
1) that NGOs are good at mobilizing people and forcing their beliefs down stakeholders throats (kinda sounds like what they always complain about).
2) Twitter can be used as a modern day lynch mob.
impoverished face
I am not sure what your face would express to strangers, mister, yet the pictures reflect protests in the capital of Romania, that is Bucharest, so no… no locals. No NGO is forcing any believe on the people who protest. I know that for a fact as being one of the “impoverished faces”. The people are protesting against the unconstitutional law given by the government which, amongst others, intends to give the right to expropriate Romanian people of their own lands by some mining company. So, Mr. Ian Harris, I hope you feed well, bon appetit, and have a glass of water and cyanide in the procentage that the gooddoer Gabriel Corp wants to put in our lake. ps. Romanians don’t use Twitter much.
