Day 12 of search for missing geology student

Mathew Huszar

Family and friends are trying to find Matthew Huszar, a University of British Columbia geology graduate, who has been missing for 12 days.

He was last seen on Friday, December 16, after leaving the Lamplighter Pub in downtown Vancouver.

“His disappearance is entirely out of character and a complete mystery with few clues to guide the investigation. Matthew has no known mental-health or substance-abuse issues and has good relationships with family and friends,” states a website devoted to finding Huszar.

Emily Whittemore, Matthew’s girlfriend, travelled to Vancouver from Colorado to join the search.

“He’s in a phenomenal place in his life. He is a successful geologist,” said Whittemore in an interview with the Vancouver Sun.

“He’s got a great family that cares about him; he’s got a good social network. He just got a sail boat. It is in Victoria. That is his prime joy right now. There’s no reason he would leave, at all.”
