The automaker joins PT Vale Indonesia and Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt as investors in a project to make an annual 120,000 tons of nickel chemicals for EV batteries.
Officials from state company Enami met with authorities and company representatives in China last month to discuss a $1.4 billion project to overhaul Enami’s smelter.
The company hasn’t yet addressed issues that led to property destruction and multiple deaths after flooding reached a nearby community in March, the government said.
