Boart Longyear, the world’s leading integrated exploration drilling services, equipment and performance tooling provider, has been awarded a contract for the exploration drilling services at Escondida copper mine in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile.

Designed to increase productivity in reverse circulation (RC) drilling and conventional DTH drilling, the new BLH series can be used in almost all DTH applications, including geotechnical drilling, quarrying/mining, water well/geothermal, and mineral exploration.

Drilling is scheduled to commence immediately.

The DCi allows a driller to operate a Boart Longyear LM™ series underground drill rig and rod handler at a safe distance. The LM75 and LM90 rigs are compatible with the DCi system, and existing LM drill rigs can be retrofitted. When using a pulse width modulation (PWM) rod handler, the DCi can control both the rig and the rod handler via an integrated control panel.

The semi-automated drill rig features a hands-free operating system and self-monitoring technology that provides increased safety and gains in overall productivity.
