Federal-Mogul’s electrical brushless fuel pump for mining machines

Federal-Mogul has developed an electrical brushless diesel fuel pump for on- and off-highway engines with significantly improved durability to help keep heavy-duty vehicles working longer. The technology suits 12 V and 24V applications. Fuel pumps are an essential part of diesel powertrains, transferring the fuel from the tank to the injection system. A typical electric pump is more fuel-efficient than those driven directly by the engine; however, the carbon commutator and brushes found in conventional pumps are subject to wear, which is accelerated by high engine vibration and variations in diesel fuel.

Xstrata Coal upgrades to multiple leading edge technology PRO3 simulators to strive for best practice

Xstrata Coal has chosen to upgrade its existing fleet of simulators based in the Hunter Valley NSW, Australia to three PRO3 base simulators and a range of equipment modules units from Immersive Technologies. This purchase supports Xstrata Coal’s ‘SafeCoal’ approach which drives the delivery of correct safety skills training to the operator workforce. The new PRO3 simulators enable Xstrata Coal to simulate a range of emergency scenarios with realism without any risk exposure to people or equipment. It is also a useful tool for pre-employment screening, targeted and refresher training.

New ferrochrome pelletising and sintering plant for Rustenburg

The Zest WEG Group, including EnI Electrical, Shaw Controls and IMS Cape, has been awarded a contract by RB Met, a joint venture between Royal Bafokeng Holdings and Metix, to supply a complete electrical solution for a 600,000 t/y Outotec SBSTM ferrochrome pelletising and sintering plant in Rustenburg, South Africa. The plant is being constructed for the Xstrata Merafe Pooling and Sharing Venture (PSV). Construction on this energy efficient greenfields plant started on April 21, 2011.

Series DX slurry knife gate valve for mining slurries

Red Valve’s says its “Series DX Slurry Knife Gate Valve is recognised as the most durable and user-friendly knife gate valve in the market today.  It is designed especially for heavy slurry applications in mining.” When the Series DX valve opens, the reinforced elastomer sleeves seal against each other and provide a 100% full port opening, minimising turbulence which in turn minimises wear.

IPCC conference program completed, three months to go!

The mining industry’s first large scale dedicated conference on In-Pit Crushing and Conveying is only three months away now. The program of 24 speakers is largely complete, with a broad mix of mining groups, consultants and OEMs scheduled to talk in-depth on a range of issues from truck / shovel versus IPCC to relocation of IPCC systems and conveyor systems for waste handling. The presence of a diverse range of stakeholders will make for the most comprehensive debate on this technology to date.

allmineral booms in iron ore: contracts still rolling in from Australia

allmineral has been awarded three independent contracts to supply its mineral processing products and equipment to the Rio Tinto Low Grade Iron Ore Pilot Plant. The pilot plant, which will be located at the Brockman 4 mine site in Western Australia,60km north west of Tom Price, will play a strategic part in the optimisation of beneficiation options for future Pilbara lower grade deposits.

Fletcher hydraulic valve locking system for underground mining machines discourages improper adjustment

Hydraulic systems that operate underground equipment can be vulnerable to improper adjustments that make them less efficient, more prone to component failure, and in the drill feed and rotation circuits, downright hazardous, resulting in broken, bent or whipping steel. Air quality issues can also arise when drill steels become clogged, hampering dust collection. J. H. Fletcher & Co is doing something to prevent those problems.
