Nautilus Minerals completes drilling program

Nautilus Minerals (TSX:NUS)(AIM:NUS) has completed its 2010/11 seafloor drilling program, with the vessel REM Etive having demobilized in Singapore on May 16, 2011. During the drilling program in the Bismarck Sea of Papua New Guinea, Nautilus completed a 99-hole diamond drilling project, for a total of 1,475 metres.

Barrick receives investment Canada clearance for Equinox acquisition

Barrick Gold announced today that it has received confirmation that the Investment Canada Act does not apply to Barrick's proposed acquisition of all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Equinox Minerals Limited. This confirmation has been obtained in connection with the previously-announced offer by Barrick's wholly-owned subsidiary, Barrick Canada Inc., to acquire, subject to the terms and conditions of the Offer, all of the Equinox Shares at a price of C$8.15 per Equinox Share.

HudBay Minerals increases first quarter profit by 59%

HudBay Minerals Inc. has released its first quarter 2011 financial results. Net profit attributable to shareholders increased to $16.8 million or $0.11 per share in the first quarter of 2011, compared to $10.6 million, or $0.07 per share, during the first quarter of 2010. Earnings in the first quarter of 2011 included a charge of $5.8 million, or $0.04 per share, for transaction costs associated with the successful acquisition of Norsemont Mining Inc. in March 2011. Earnings grew during the quarter mainly due to higher metal prices and reduced exploration expense, partly offset by lower sales volumes, a stronger Canadian dollar and Norsemont transaction costs.

First Majestic earns a record $23.9 million in first quarter of 2011

First Majestic has experienced a new record for quarterly earnings for the first quarter of 2011 due to a 30% increase in average realized silver prices over the prior quarter and a 95% increase from the same quarter of 2010. Silver production in the first quarter remained steady at the same levels as the fourth quarter of 2010, which is up 25% over the first quarter of 2010.

Ivanhoe Mines: Construction of Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold-silver complex advancing toward planned start of commercial production in the first half of 2013.

Overall construction of the Oyu Tolgoi Project was 15.1% complete by the end of Q1'11, slightly ahead of the planned 14.8%. Total capital invested in the project by the end of Q1'11 was $1.8 billion. The Oyu Tolgoi Project initially is being developed as an open-pit operation, with the first phase of mining planned to start at the near-surface Southern Oyu deposits, which include Southwest Oyu and Central Oyu. A copper concentrator plant, related facilities and necessary infrastructure that will support an initial throughput of 100,000 tonnes of ore per day are being constructed to process ore scheduled to be mined from the Southern Oyu open pit. Commercial production of copper-gold-silver concentrate is projected to begin in the first half of 2013.

IAMGOLD’s Essakane Mine resumes operation

IAMGOLD announced that employees at the Company's Essakane Mine in Burkina Faso are back at work and that the mine has resumed operation. Negotiations are to resume immediately with the intent to resolve all issues within the next 60 days.

Northern Freegold announces $8 million private placement

Northern Freegold Resources announced that it intends to complete a non-brokered private placement of up to 22,857,142 units at a price of $0.35 per unit, for gross proceeds of up to $8 million. Each unit will consist of a common share and a share purchase warrant, each warrant being exercisable to acquire an additional share at $0.45 for 18 months following the closing. Net proceeds from the private placement will be applied towards advancement of the Company's Yukon mineral properties and for general working capital purposes.

Richmont Mines reports strong results in the first quarter of 2011

Silvercorp reports record silver production of 5.3 million ounces, record net income of $68.8 million, up 79%, and record cash flows of $104.2 million, up 60% for fiscal year 2011

Silvercorp Metals reported in Q4 that net earnings were up 29% to $12.6 million, or $0.07 per share, compared to net earnings of $9.8 million, or $0.06 per share, in the same quarter last year. It also said that quarterly cash flows from operations up 44% to $34.3 million, or $0.20 per share, from $23.8 million in the same quarter last year. Production was 1.05 million ounces of silver in the quarter, resulting in a record annual production of 5.3 million ounces of silver and achieved the fifth consecutive year of production growth.

IAMGOLD reports record first quarter net earnings operating cash flow up 177% year-over-year

IAMGOLD Corporation reported its unaudited consolidated financial and operating results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2011. Net earnings were $162.3 million ($0.41 per share), an increase of $102.1 million compared to the first quarter of 2010, and operating cash flow was $205.8 million ($0.55 per share1), representing an increase of 177% from the first quarter of 2010. "Our strong first quarter results reflect our focused strategy to maximize the value of mines that we own and operate," said Steve Letwin, IAMGOLD's President and CEO. "Attributable gold production was up 41% year-over-year driven chiefly by the inclusion of Essakane along with higher recoveries at Rosebel. We continue to benefit from higher gold prices and are implementing various initiatives to reduce our cash costs."

SouthGobi fuel supplier claims force majeur

Mongolia’s SouthGobi Resources said that its fuel supplier claimed a force majeur after Russia cut supplies to the country to a mere 10,000 tonnes. The company said its flagship coal mine, Ovoot Tolgoi, has enough fuel to last 45 days under normal operations or around three months if it scaled back production. SouthGobi also stated that it has coal in inventory and customer trucks can be fuelled in China, a short distance away from the mine.
