Mercator production for two months exceeds projected Q2 2011 production guidance

Mercator Minerals is pleased to announce that that for the first two months of Q2 2011, the Company produced 7,538,130 pounds of copper and 1,128,674 pounds of molybdenum at its wholly owned Mineral Park mine in Arizona, as compared to total Q2 2011 production guidance for the months of April to June, given on March 8, 2011 of 10,163,548 pounds of copper and 1,033,558 pounds of molybdenum, representing 74% of the guided quarterly copper production and 109% of the guided quarterly molybdenum production during a period of two months of a three month quarter, with a full month of production to come. 

Gitennes reports the third set of Silver – Gold assays from Urumalqui

Gitennes Exploration of assay results for five more drill holes from AndeanGold's infill drilling program on the main Urumalqui Vein (the "Vein") at the Urumalqui Project in Perú. These latest holes concentrate upon a 350-metre interval along strike and to the west of AndeanGold's previously announced six drill holes, bringing the total interval of 50 metre-spaced drill intercepts to 550 metres. PGUR #01 is the western-most hole planned in the current program. Gitennes has drilled the vein an additional 500 metres further west, but on very wide-spaced intervals and only to shallow depths.

Copper Mountain Mine processes first ore

Copper Mountain Mining announced that construction of the processing plant is complete and on scheduled for June 2011 production from the Copper Mountain Mine. Mining is proceeding as planned and has been delivering ore to the primary crusher since mid April. The Company has been stock piling ore as part of preproduction mining activities.

First Uranium announces financial results for the three and twelve months ended March 31, 2011

First Uranium announced total gold sales for its financial year ended March 31, 2011 ("FY 2011") of 142,630 ounces of gold, which is a significant increase over the 91,657 ounces sold at the end of March 31, 2010. The Company's consolidated revenue of $172 million for FY 2011, an increase of 86% from $93 million in revenue for FY 2010, resulted in the Company reflecting a $20 million gross profit margin from operations in FY 2011 compared to a loss of $18 million in FY 2010. Remembering that First Uranium remains in a capital development and growth phase, the consolidated pre-tax loss for the year was $76 million, which is a 19% improvement over the pre-tax loss of $94 million in FY 2010.

Anaconda Mining reports record gold production at Pine Cove: 344.2 troy ounces in a single pour

Anaconda Mining Inc. ("Anaconda") - (TSX: ANX) is pleased to announce that, on May 4, 2011, it shipped a record amount of gold, 344.2 troy ounces, in a single pour at its Pine Cove gold mine ("Pine Cove"). The production was during an approximately 7-day period from April 25ththrough May 1st. In addition, overall recovery rates at the Pine Cove mill continue to improve. In the press release dated May 2, 2011, Anaconda reported that overall recovery had reached the low to mid 70% range. During the period from May 1st through May 15th, overall mill recovery was approximately 80%.

Azimut finds high-grade chromium mineralization at Eastmain West, James Bay region, Quebec

Azimut Exploration Inc. ("Azimut") (TSXV: AZM) reports excellent results from its 100%-owned Eastmain West property located in the James Bay region,Quebec. Chromium grades up to 39% Cr2O3 and platinum group element (PGE) values up to 1.9 g/t PGE have been obtained within a 4-km-long ultramafic intrusion on the property. These new data further confirm the strong chromium-PGE exploration potential of the project.

Scorpio Mining reports record silver production in Q1 2011 and increases mine operating earnings by 123% from Q4 2010

Scorpio Mining achieved record mine operating earnings of $12.5 million in Q1 2011, an increase of 823% over mine operating earnings in Q1 2010 and 123% over mine operating earnings in Q4 2010. Net earnings were $6.6 million or $0.03 per share (basic) for Q1 2011 compared to $18.6 million or $0.17 per share (basic) for Q1 2010. The Q1 2010 net earnings included a $19.8 million gain on dilution and deconsolidation of Scorpio Gold Corporation ("Scorpio Gold"). Basic earnings per share of $0.09 in Q4 2010 was due to the inclusion of $12.4 million of non-cash corporate tax recoveries.

Afferro Mining: metallurgical testwork indicates potential for sinter fines product

Preliminary metallurgical test work was conducted on a composite sample of the haematitic saprolite ore from the Nkout Centre area of the deposit. The sample consisted of drill hole intersections from the central part of the deposit and had a head grade of 43.6% Fe. The aim of the test work was to determine the potential to produce a suitable blast furnace feed. The test work was conducted at SGS Mineral Services, Truro, UK.

Soaring demand for rare earth metals - used in the production of everything from smart phones to computer hardware to energy-efficient lights - is generating new but risky opportunities for mining companies in Canada and around the world, Ernst & Young says. "Rare earth metals are feeding the production of high-tech and green products. Demand is expected to jump more than 60% in the next five years alone," says Zahid Fazal, partner and leader of Ernst & Young's mining practice in Quebec. "The problem is China accounts for virtually all rare earths production, and their export restrictions are driving prices higher. What's more, Chinese domestic consumption of rare earth materials is predicted to outpace supply between 2012 and 2015."

Mountain Province Diamonds announces results of independent valuation of Gahcho Kué Diamonds

Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. ("Mountain Province", the "Company") (TSX: MPV, NY-AMEX: MDM) today announced the results of an updated independent valuation of the diamonds recovered from the Gahcho Kué Project. The valuation was conducted by WWW International Diamond Consultants Ltd. and took place at the London offices of the Diamond Trading Company in early April, 2011. All diamond values presented below are based on the WWW Price Book as at April 11, 2011. Importantly, for the first time, the Gahcho Kué diamonds were grouped into larger parcels, each parcel representing diamonds from the Hearne, Tuzo and the separate lobes of the 5034 kimberlite. In the opinion of WWW, grouping of the diamonds into larger parcels increased the accuracy of the diamond valuation.
