Berkeley to sell unprocessed, high-grade Kabwe lead/zinc tailings

Berkeley Mineral Resources, the UK-listed junior primarily engaged in processing mining tailings, has announced a decision to sell the washplant tailings from the Kabwe lead/zinc mine in Zambia without further processing. The Kabwe mine was discovered during 1902 and commenced operations in 1904, reaching full-scale production in 1906.

Cummins extends mining engine power to 4,000 hp with launch of QSK95 ‘Hedgehog’

In one of the most significant mining engine unveilings in years, Cummins launched its new 16-cylinder, 4,000 hp QSK95 ‘Hedgehog’ engine at a special event in the company’s home Seymour engine plant in Indiana on November 1, attended by International Mining Editor Paul Moore as well as key industry customers from the mining, marine, oil and gas, and power generation sectors.

Available to all off-road tyre users in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, the company states that the new internet-based program will ensure that each customer gets the best possible expert support when purchasing and operating Goodyear tyres.

Peace River Coal buys Anglo’s 10th ThoroughTec simulator base unit

Anglo American has acquired its 10th simulator base unit from ThoroughTec, which will be installed at the Peace River Coal mine in British Columbia. The purchase includes ThoroughTec Simulation’s unique 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) simulator base unit and a range of interchangeable cabs for the Komatsu 830E AC haul truck, Komatsu PC5500 excavator, CAT D10 dozer, CAT 140H Grader and the P&H 320XP drill rig.

Cavotec wins new order for mineral port ship mooring technology from Fortescue

Global engineering group Cavotec has had a significant new order for its automated ship mooring technology, MoorMaster. Iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) has ordered 24 MoorMaster MM200D automated mooring units for the Anderson Point 4 (AP4) berth, the company’s fourth berth at Port Hedland. The units will moor vessels ranging in size from 174 kdwt (’000 dead weight tonnes) to 206 kdwt and are designed to withstand the rugged conditions at the berth where winds gust up to 30m/s. Due to tidal variations, vessels calling at Anderson Point are only able to sail at specific times.

BASF forms new underground mining chemicals venture in China

BASF and Ji'Ning Hock Mining & Engineering Equipment have received approval from the relevant antitrust authorities in China for the formation of BASF Hock Mining Chemical (China) Company Ltd. BASF has a 75% majority stake in the new venture, which will continue Hock's existing business activities in the field of chemical injection and cavity filling products for coal mining and other underground applications.
