Letter to Times Colonist: More rules not the answer for mining

Calvin Sandborn and Maya Stano raise some valid concerns regarding the current mining boom and suggest that regulatory reform and making more laws will help ("Province failing in inspections and enforcement to protect environment," July 2). Unfortunately, they failed to relate the progressive approaches being taken by the mining industry to achieve environmental protection.

Explorers appreciate federal government commitments to tax credit extension/red tape reduction

The Association for Mineral Exploration BC (AME BC) today thanked the federal government for its continued support of the mineral exploration tax credit, and reducing red tape. The federal budget includes an extension to the 15 per-cent Mineral Exploration Tax Credit to March 31, 2012. This important tax credit helps companies raise capital by providing an incentive to individuals who invest in flow-through shares for mineral exploration in Canada.

Northwest Transmission Line receives federal approval; Explorers rejoice

Today the Association for Mineral Exploration BC (AME BC) joined the Northwest Power Line Coalition in celebrating the federal environmental approval of the Northwest Transmission Line project. This federal approval supports the decision taken by the BC Environmental Assessment Office to grant BC Hydro an environmental assessment certificate for the proposed $404 million, 344-kilometre transmission line project from the existing Skeena substation south of Terrace to a new substation near Bob Quinn Lake along Highway 37 in northwest British Columbia.

BC Mineral Explorers thank federal government for continued support

The Association for Mineral Exploration BC (AME BC) today thanked the federal government for its continued support of the mineral exploration tax credit, and reducing red tape. The federal budget includes a proposed extension to the 15 per-cent Mineral Exploration Tax Credit to March 31, 2012. This important tax credit helps companies raise capital by providing an incentive to individuals who invest in flow-through shares issued to finance mineral exploration in Canada. The federal government will also continue its work with the Red Tape Reduction Commission to reduce complex and overlapping regulatory requirements.
