28 still trapped in coal mine in China

Twenty-eight miners were still trapped underground Thursday while 63 others were rescued after a fire broke out in a coal mine in China's Shandong province Wednesday night, Xinhua reported. A total of 91 people were trapped after an air compression device located in a parking lot 255 metres underground caught fire at 6.45 p.m. Wednesday, a provincial government spokesman said.

Tepco, Xstrata agree $127.50/ton for July-June

Tokyo Electric Power Co. has agreed to buy Australian thermal coal from Xstrata PLC for 12 months retroactively starting July 1, at US$127.50 a metric ton, $2 lower than its April-March price. The price agreed between Xstrata and Tepco is often used as a benchmark for other Japanese utilities in their negotiations for Australian thermal coal.
