Towards the middle of last year, Sanitech achieved the goal set and developed their patented Khusela (DST) Dry Sanitation Toilet unit that can be retrofitted to an existing pit latrine to not only prevent children from falling in to the pits, it prevents the spread of disease, is serviceable and protects the environment from contamination.

A learnership programme for 60 females from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, with disabilities, was recently implemented by Sanitech, a division of Waco Africa. The learners, who all reside in rural areas around South Africa, embarked on a General Education and Training Certificate in Hygiene and Cleaning.

With the drastic water shortage currently being experienced in Cape Town, individuals and organisations need to do all they can to save water. One of the immediate actions which can be implemented is the use of portable toilets, which impacts on the physical saving of water as well as being a vital element of disaster management.
