Endeavour Mining’s (TSX, LON: EDV) gold sourced from its Ity mine in Côte d’Ivoire has landed at the red carpet of the Met Gala 2023 as part of the jewellery worn by one of the fashion event co-host.
Michaela Coel, a British-Ghanaian actress and screenwriter, enlisted the help of fellow jeweller Emefa Cole to create the headpiece, earrings and rings she wore Monday night.
The jewellery pieces were made from more than 2kg of gold from the Ity mine, which is certified by the Single Mine Origin (SMO) initiative.
SMO traces every ounce of gold from the accredited mines that produced it through the value chain to the final consumer.
“We are delighted and extremely proud to supply the gold worn so beautifully by Michaela at the Met Gala,” Endeavour president and CEO, Sebastien de Montessus, said in a statement.
He noted he hoped these kinds of instances help raise awareness of the importance of responsible mining.
“We know that consumers place high importance on the provenance of the products that they buy and the SMO initiative is a critical step in providing the assurance that the gold they wear is fully traceable and ethically sourced to the highest standards,” de Montessus said.
