Dust emissions are an environmental issue of increasing concern to both government regulators and the community. The main concerns relate to potential amenity, and health and environmental impacts from the emissions. It is therefore imperative that mining/processing operations, as part of their overall environmental management, reduce fugitive particulate emissions to as low a level as is practicably possible. In this article, SKM’s air quality expert, Jon Harper, discusses the causes and types of dust emissions and mechanisms to measure and monitor dust emissions.
