Massive Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold project may be major silver producer-Friedland

The massive Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold project in southern Mongolia is now expected to produce an average of more than 3 million ounces of silver annually during its first 10 years of commercial production. In a news release Thursday Ivanhoe Mines CEO Robert Friedland said "Oyu Tolgoi will rank as a very substantial silver producer when commercial production begins in 2013."

Mapping project by British Columbia Geological Survey identifies “unprecedented opportunities” in new zones and offers insights in Romios’ Dirk/Newmont Lake area Geology

Romios Gold Resources announced that a 2010 mapping project from the British Columbia Geological Survey confirmed Romios' previous claims that the Dirk property mineralization is analogous to and may be as large as the Galore Creek project. Samples collected by Romios from the Dirk property produced numerous anomalous values including a 3.0 metre chip sample of 6.21% Cu, 0.57 g/t Au, and 44.1 g/t Ag. The BCGS also reports values up to 21 ppb platinum and 64 ppb palladium from samples that they collected from the Dirk property.

Silvercorp up 4 per cent after positive preliminary assessment

Silvercorp announced on Thursday that it received a positive preliminary assessment for its Silvertip silver-lead-zinc project in northern British Columbia. Silvercorp's stock was up 4% on the TSX on Friday. The report prepared by Golder Associates favoured a small mine and mill operating seasonally at 500 tonne per day or 72,000 tonne per year. "The initial capital cost of the project is estimated to be $US49 million with sustaining capital costs over the remaining mine life (21 years) estimated at $US54.2 million. The payback period is estimated at 4 years for the base case and 2 years for the upside case after reaching commercial production."
