After years of debate, South Africa’s ruling party African National Congress rejected Thursday plans to nationalize the country’s mining sector, but voted in favour of higher taxes in the world’s main producer of platinum and chrome.
HD Mining, the Vancouver-based company that in early October sparked controversy and legal actions with its plan to bring up to 2,000 Chinese miners for its proposed $300 million coal mine, won’t replace all of its foreign workers by Canadians at least until 2026.
