The Canadian miner withdrew a plan to split itself in half just hours before a high-stakes vote.

Canada Pension Plan Investment Board says it will vote for Teck’s plan to split the mining company after a “technical error” last week caused it to state the opposite.

Production hit 178,100 tonnes of copper in Q1 mainly due to the ramp-up of its newly opened Quellaveco copper mine in Peru.

Glencore declined to comment on whether it has met yet with CIC.

"We need companies like Teck here in Canada, companies with a strong commitment to Canada," Freeland wrote in a letter to the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.
