Canada Pension Plan Investment Board says it will vote for Teck’s plan to split the mining company after a “technical error” last week caused it to state the opposite.
Capital needed to achieve results in line with the firm's environmental sustainability goals, which it said also align with the government's lithium strategy.
"We need companies like Teck here in Canada, companies with a strong commitment to Canada," Freeland wrote in a letter to the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.
