Congo gets firmer grip on Ivanhoe’s Kamoa-Kakula copper project
Canada’s Ivanhoe Mines and joint-venture partner Zijin Mining have transferred a further 15% interest in their Kamoa-Kakula copper project to the DRC’s government.
Konkola Copper Mines was placed under provisional liquidation after the previous Zambian government accused parent company Vedanta of lying about expansion plans and paying too little tax.
Mining international waters is in the spotlight as companies are looking at minerals concentrated on the ocean floor that can be used in batteries for smart phones and electric vehicles.
