Bushfire moves nearer New South Wales Glencore mine

An out-of-control bushfire is burning close to Glencore Xstrata’s Mangoola coal mine in New South Wales, Australia.

The fire covers an area of nearly 300 hectares, part of which is only three kilometres from the Glencore mine.

A group of Mangoola employees have joined in with the local brigade to fight the fire.

Conditions are said to be hot and windy Friday, slowing operations at Mangoola.

Mangoola Coal is an open cut operation in the Wybong area, based on a large, undeveloped coal reserve of approximately 150 million tonnes.
