Being ‘good looking’ will land you a mining job in Indonesia

An Indonesia-based coal miner has published a job post asking for “good looking” single females under 25 to apply for the receptionist position.

According to News Australia, the Pt. Karya Bumi Baratama coal company was asking for candidates that also had strong interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English.

“Fresh graduate and a student who are in (sic) the completion of the final thesis are welcome to apply,” the ad said.

Johann A. Robertson, InfoMine Australia’s general manager, the site where the ad appeared, but was quickly removed, said these kinds of job postings are unacceptable.

“From what my staff tell me about the South-East Asia job region, it really sounds like this receptionist ad in question is looking for the stereotypical demographic for the role that is unencumbered to work longer hours, rather than for any kind of inappropriate relationship,” he said.

The executive added he was surprised the ad got past their exhaustive screening processes, but he was glad it only stayed up a few minutes.
